Sophie Nixon at Bankley Studios

Sophie Nixon graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle in 1995 and now lives in Manchester, working from Bankley Artists Studios in Levenshulme.

Her most recent show, “These Streets” was an exhibition of recent paintings and drawings. Recently, she has been inspired by chance shots taken in Manchester and on travels around Europe. Working from photos taken randomly during her commute and manipulated both digitally and manually she is drawn to reflective light and interesting subjects, evoking a captured moment or a chance meeting. Sophie is inspired by the early city scenes of Rothko, the cinematic scenes of Edward Hopper, and has more recently been introduced to the work of Jock McFadyen and Ben McLaughlin.

Sophie has exhibited in solo and group shows at Arison Art Gallery, the Lowry hotel in Manchester, the Augenweide Gallery in Munster, Urban Arcadia at Novus in West Didsbury, the Region exhibition sponsored by New Balance footwear, Chorlton Arts Fair and the Waterside Open Show in Sale. Her work is in both private and commercial collections.
