I enjoy drawing flowers and at the end of my BA Textile degree they became a major theme in my work and I have continued to use this subject matter in my current work. I am particularly fascinated by the intimate detail in the patterning, tonal qualities and form of flowers and plants. I like to capture the nature, character and structure of each flower or plant and attempt to emphasis the pattern and colour through the enlargement and isolation of forms. An individual does not need to possess artistic or botanical knowledge to find floral design and paintings appealing.
My artwork has also developed into other areas that reflect my personal interests and experiences such as travel and architecture, especially the decorative and ornate building façades found in Venice and other countries within Europe. My preferred painting mediums are designers’ gouache and artists’ watercolour paints on a range of watercolour and Japanese handmade papers.
I also create handmade cards that I sell through my website, art fairs and retail outlets.
