Seemingly worlds apart, the domains of art and football rarely have a chance to collide. ‘Fantasista’ aims to explore some of the similarities between these apparently disparate realms. Most striking is the inexplicable and unrelenting passion, bordering on obsession; followers have for these respective worlds. Most interesting of all is this unwaning passion often without tangible reward for the majority of players, fans, artists and art lovers who indulge their passions.

Much like the art world, football can seem as a closed club to many, the inflated salary of the premiership footballer comparable to the astronomical prices of deceased and living artists at auction houses are luxuries most find it difficult to relate to. But for artists and footballers alike great struggles, skill and sacrifice precede any success, and for many who dedicate their lives to either discipline tangible rewards are rarely seen at all.

Fantasista is the brainchild of Richard Swarbrick, animator and football fanatic, whose signature style highlights the poetry of football, and explores the relationship between sport and art on a wider scale. Swarbrick has teamed up with Hotspur & Argyle and Bearspace to deliver a dynamic event, which aims to promote this little explored but highly productive symbiosis.
