Bankley Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new and recent work by Manchester based artist Philip Constable. His paintings look at the changing urban landscape of Manchester, exploring how previously industrial and working class areas are being redeveloped and gentrified.

Constable uses industrial methods and materials such as screen-printing and emulsion paint in a style that deliberately mimics computer graphics.

These paintings explore the history of buildings similar to Bankley Mill, following them from their decline as a centre of industry and the collapse of the social system that they supported, through to their rebirth as new middle class flats, shops and businesses.

Philip Constable is an established Manchester based artist who has exhibited across the North West region. Constable is also a Tutor at Manchester College of Arts and Technology and has worked as a graphic designer.
