Bankley Gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of recent work by Karin Dolk. The exhibition consists of new vide, sound and photography installations. Karin Dolk is a London based artist originally from Sweden; through language games, her work plays with displacement of meaning, creating a sense of misunderstanding and absurdity. The title of Dolk's exhibition, NUL - L'UN, is a French palindrome describing the most fundamental palindrome there is, 1-0. It is a circle simultaneously progressing and returning back on itself. The work focuses on a moment in language where there is a discrepancy between the attempt of communicating and the decoding of language and mythology. The metaphor is the stretch in language where there is a possibility for ambiguity and misapprehension depending on context, background and reference points. Despite moments of awkwardness and staccato, a sense of fluidity prevails, a wave going to and fro, to and fro, like the oscillation of night and day - forever returning to its own beginning. Karin Dolk has shown extensively across the UK and Europe and received the Fredrika Bremer Award in 2001. NUL - L'UN will be her first solo show and her first exhibition in Manchester. Karin Dolk's exhibition coincides with the annual Bankley Open Studios. All studio spaces will be open on Friday 12 November 7-9 pm, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 November 12-5 pm. For
