Gordon Connell is primarily concerned with the colour and texture of the paint surface. Using oils, collage and gestural marks he brings out the intense shimmering quality of translucent layers of paint. The aim is to short-circuit the intellect and appeal directly to the senses.

Found marks from city streets and walls are incorporated into the paintings - their raw energy providing a foundation for vibrant blues, greens and pinks.

The intention is a gritty-but-radiant abstraction with nothing recognisable and absolutely no narrative; urban colour field with kick.
