My practice focuses on the line at which the science of Photography and the Art of Photography overlap. Photography was one described by Walter Benjamin as as ‘relieving the hand of the principal artist responsibility’; the work I currently create is about redistributing the process of creating a ‘Photograph’ back to the hand. My work is an exploration of Photography in its most primitive form, light on a surface.
Surface Light (the title given to my current and on-going work) is a study of interjection within photography by using light and raw photographic materials, I endeavour to create images that are by definition ‘Photographs’, yet show few characteristics of what we would colloquially associate with a photograph.
